To anyone with difficulty hearing, try to speak to them before hand to see if you can sit up on the first floor, it’s much easier to hear and a lot lighter to lipread. It was a real shame, we didn’t enjoy much of our experience here and I will not go again. The black daal is described as ‘deeply flavoured’ we found it deeply bland. The roti was overdone and slightly burnt in places. Though the food was really disappointing, the chicken tikka was possibly the blandest I have ever had. The waitress who served us was very nice. (For anyone who has one, I had to turn off my aid as the background noise was painful).

I am hard of hearing and even found it hard to lipread it was that dark. It’s very different to upstairs, it’s dark, very loud and the tables are too close to each other. We had a couple of awkward moments where she just stopped and looked at us intently. The service whilst waiting outside was great they gave us tea but when we got in we felt like the lady showing us to our table was possibly looking. We came for my birthday after hearing lots about the restaurant and we love Indian food. The Covent Garden location is busy, but the cozy downstairs nooks feel worlds away from the crowded streets outside the door. The relatively new King’s Cross venue is in a trendy warehouse conversion with a vintage Mumbai vibe. If noshing outside under twinkly lights is for you, head to the Shoreditch location (inside is nice there too). Dishoom has 3 locations and the décor and vibe differs in each. Don’t forget to order from the bar menu (my favorite is Edwina’s Affair) to get the full experience. Alternatively, go for the main dish feasts like Chicken Berry Britannia or Black House Daal. Dishoom’s lunch and dinner menus have a great small plate selection, so you can share and sample a little bit of everything. What a luscious start to a day in the Big Smoke. A gorgeous omelette with chopped tomato, onion, coriander and green chili and a side of fire toast? Fresh mango, grapes, strawberries and honeydew topped with Keralan vanilla pod infused yoghurt.
